The consequences of a 2012 ruling in Leon County Circuit Court, holding un-constitutional a congressional map approved by lawmakers that year, are now clear. Judge Terry Lewis on Friday ordered the Legislature to submit a revised map.
At issue, gerrymandering of congressional districts that appear to have been made to protect certain ethnic groups and the seats of some incumbent members of congress.
“The Secretary of State and elections supervisors have been informed to submit a proposed schedule for a special election,” according to the court administrator. “Judge Lewis’ findings in July must be applied, and redrawn congressional districts must be voted on by August 15th.”
