Letter: Moeller not good steward of fiscal environment

Dear Editor-

Cory “Duke” Mara is challenging eight year incumbent Jeannie Moeller for her seat on the Anastasia Mosquito Control District, District 2. Mara offers a fresh face and a more contemporary perspective on the issues facing the District and its operations.

Ms. Moeller has been a controversial character during her tenure at the District. Moeller seems to believe that the tax revenue collected and appropriated for the District belongs to her personally — and it is spent as such.

It also appears to me, through my own research, that Moeller uses taxpayer’s hard earned money to attend conferences at a rate disproportionate to the other Commissioners, which leads me to believe Moeller is not a steward of the fiscal environment here in St. Johns County. She is, however, a steward of her own ego and personal interests.

I was very impressed with Mr. Mara’s answers after watching him in a recent campaign interview. He was sincere, honest and respectful of the campaign process. Even more impressive was Mr. Mara’s positive description and regard for his competitor, Ms. Moeller. Unfortunately, I found Ms. Moeller’s interview to be rude, awkward, fiscally unsettling, and personally arrogant.

Cory is no stranger to government considering his extensive work with St. Johns County’s Growth Management department. As an urban planner and healthcare professional, I know what kind of impact his experience and expertise in GIS and budgeting will have on the District as we move forward.

He has committed to roll back the short term increase in the millage rate once the new central facility is completed and will work hard to make sure the proceeds of the Anastasia property sale are returned to the reserve fund.

For these reasons, I ask that you vote for Cory “Duke” Mara over Ms. Moeller
