Local Art Association recognizes volunteers

At its March annual meeting, the St. Augustine Art Association informed Historic City News that they recognized their volunteers for their outstanding service to the organization during the past year.

Anne Woodruff was the recipient of the 2013 Docent of the Year Award. In addition to her service, Woodruff, a certified docent and manager for Bank of America, has parlayed her many volunteer hours into financial support for the art organization through her employer. “It’s such an honor to be an ambassador for the Art Association,” said Woodruff. “I really enjoy the time I spend in the gallery and all of the wonderful people I meet there.”

Excellence in Service Awards were given to:

Alicia Gray, who photographs events, exhibits and award ceremonies
Marguerita Brinton, who assists with children’s programs and hospitality
Jerry Avery, the Association’s show manager

Savannah Perry, a senior at St. Augustine High School was recognized with the Youth Service Award for her assistance with the summer art camp series.

Long-time Board Member Cable Spence, who retired this year, and Bill Mayer, accountant, were each presented with an Honorary Life Member distinctixon.

“It’s a real source of pride to have been a part of helping the Association grow into the exciting and influential art group that it is today,” said Spence.

With more than 5,000 volunteer hours clocked during the year, the Art Association is able to keep the gallery at 22 Marine Street free and open to the public, while also offering art enrichment programs for the entire community.
