Late Wednesday night, Historic City News was informed that two young men committed an armed robbery of a 55-year-old man as he was preparing to enter his St Augustine Shores residence located on Phoenetia Drive at about 11:30 p.m. The home is in the area of Shores Boulevard and Santa Maria Boulevard.
The victim told detectives that after he got off work, he stopped at a US-1 South bank and then drove to his home. Before getting out of his vehicle, two black men drove by in a white four-door sedan; possibly a 2000 Ford Taurus. They turned the vehicle around and stopped in front of the victim’s residence.
The men, described to be in their late teens to early 20’s, both about 5’5” tall, asked the victim for directions. One of the men was slightly stocky, clean cut in appearance and dark complexion. The other had a medium build and medium complexion.
When the victim went over to give directions, the two brandished handguns and demanded money. The victim told the robbers that he had no cash. One of the men struck the victim in the face with his handgun, and removed the victim’s wallet from his pocket. The robbers drove off with the victim’s wallet and assorted credit and ID cards.
The victim was treated at the scene by St Johns County emergency medical personnel.
