On September 30, 2014, two new members will join the five-member Planning and Zoning Board in St Augustine; a panel that City Attorney Isabelle Lopez calls the “most important citizen’s board”, and those two people will be selected on Monday evening at the regular meeting of the St Augustine City Commission.
City Clerk Alison Ratkovic is in receipt of nine applications for the two open seats on St Augustine’s official Local Comprehensive Planning Agency. A ballot will decide the two winning applicants.
Qualifications of applicants applying to be considered for appointment are as follows:
• No member shall be appointed for more than two (2) consecutive full terms.
• Ability to apply rules and regulations in an objective, non-emotional method to each application as presented.Experience:
• architect, Florida registered;
• planner member, APA or AICP;
• real estate broker, with County occupational license;
• educator, college level;
• engineer, Florida registered;
• landscape architect, Florida registered;
• preservation organization officer;
• environmental or land use organization officer;
• attorney, Florida Bar;
• merchant or business person, City occupational license;
• contractor, City contractor’s license

The board may grant zoning exceptions and variances as provided in the zoning code ordinances; hear appeals of any decision of the Planning and Building Department; recommend to the Commission the rezoning of land and changes to the Comprehensive Plan.
