Open House for upcoming Civil Rights Museum

Dalonja Duncan, President-Elect of the Anniversary to Commemorate the Civil Rights Demonstrations, has invited all Historic City News readers to attend an open house of the upcoming Civil Rights Museum; in the historic Rudcarlie Building, located at 79 Bridge Street in St Augustine.

This special open house will celebrate two major donations in support of the Museum and is timed to coincide with the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration, on January 20th, from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Guests will be treated to a preview of the building, scheduled to open soon, and offered light refreshments by ACCORD Vice-President, Cora Tyson.

A $5,000 grant from Wells Fargo will be presented in support of ACCORD’s Civil Rights Museum project. Wells Fargo recently relocated its downtown bank to 31 King Street; site of the former Woolworth’s — a significant landmark of the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement.

Also, four members of the Willits Book Trust granting group will presents gifts of books that embody Quaker values; titles of which were selected by board members and volunteers involved in the museum’s planning. The Trust makes grants to emerging and established libraries and organizations that serve Liberians and African American communities in the southern United States.
