Lift Up Lincolnville Revitalization Corp. president Sue Agresta, announced to Historic City News that tomorrow, Saturday, November 8th, a benefit performance of the award-winning Broadway play, Clybourne Park, will take place at Limelight Theatre, 11 Old Mission Avenue, uptown St. Augustine.
The non-profit organization is sponsoring the event to help raise funds for the preservation of Eddie Vickers Park in Lincolnville. Funding for the project will enable Eddie Vickers Park Preservationists to capture interviews of people impacted by the park as part of a “mini-museum” proposed to be incorporated into the adjacent Willie Galimore Center.
“Please come out for the Saturday evening performance; which include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, as well as deserts sponsored by the Corner Market on DeHaven Street,” Agresta said. “A donation of $50 per ticket can be made by calling the Limelight Theater box office at 904-825-1164.”
Eddie Vickers Park Preservationists was formed to research the park’s history and raise funds to establish markers, create a timeline in the newly renovated Willie Galimore Center, and to apply for listing on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
Working together on the project are Accord President Dalonja Duncan, Flagler College Professor Casey Welch; researchers Laurel Lee Welch and Deltra Long; History Chair Emeritus Thomas Graham; Lincolnville Neighborhood Association President Judith Seraphin; Lift Up Lincolnville Revitalization Corp. President Sue Agresta, artist and author Rosamond Parrish; and a neighborhood of dedicated residents of the Lincolnville Historic Preservation district.
The honored and acclaimed Clybourne Park is about race, real estate, and the volatile values of each. Directed locally by Jason Collins, the Bruce Norris production of Clybourne Park quickly became Broadway’s hottest ticket; winning “best play” of the 2012 Tony Awards, as well as a Pulitzer Prize. It has been described as “completely outrageous”, “wickedly funny and fiercely provocative”.
