For the second year, Historic City News has learned that Old Town Trolley Tours, Mint Magazine, and WSOS Radio, will jointly sponsor the “Light Up the Night Competition” in an effort to encourage even more participation from local businesses in lighting up the St. Augustine night, and to keep those lights on longer.
Guests riding the Holly Jolly Trolley during St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights this year can vote for their favorite holiday lighting display. A panel of local government and hospitality industry leaders will participate in the final judging of the contest winners. The contest is designed to promote awareness of Nights of Lights in general.
St Augustine based Old Town Trolley Tours, General Manager Dave Chatterton, has estimated for Historic City News that some 75,000 people are expected to ride the “Holly Jolly Trolley” to experience the wonderland of millions of white lights sparkling throughout this charming old city.
Nights of Lights, now in its 21st year, has become a treasured holiday tradition for many residents as well as visitors. The effort put forth by local business owners who have participated each year, has led to a great deal of attention and accolades. Most notably, National Geographic named St. Augustine one of the ten best places in the world to see holiday lights.
Chatterton says that his company is committed to turning this Second Annual Light up the Night Competition into an integral part of how St. Augustine celebrates the holidays.
