The National Weather Service has alerted Historic City News to severe weather conditions expected tonight through Sunday for St Johns and surrounding counties. There is a threat of tornadoes until early this evening.
This afternoon and tonight, showers and isolated thunderstorms for the rest of the afternoon over eastern portions of northeast Florida.
A much colder air mass will plunge into the region tonight. Freeze warnings are likely beginning late tonight and tomorrow. Wind chills will fall into the mid-20’s over interior locations in southeast Georgia and the Suwanee Valley towards sunrise. Lows will fall into the 30’s. Gusty northwesterly winds will overspread the coastal waters with small craft advisories for the coastal region.
For days two through seven, Tuesday through Sunday, an elevated fire danger is expected Tuesday.
Small craft advisories will continue for the coastal waters through Tuesday night. Winds and seas will subside by early Wednesday.
Hard freeze watches have been posted for most inland counties on Tuesday night; when lows will fall into the low-to-mid 20’s. Freeze warnings will accompany the coldest weather of the season thus far — expected on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Freeze watches are posted elsewhere where lows will fall to the upper 20’s to the lower 30’s.
