Southbound Interstate-95 still partially closed

Historic City News received a noon update from Florida Highway Patrol spokesman, Sergeant Dillon Bryan, alerting our readers that crash and homicide investigators are still on the scene of last night’s collision on southbound I-95 at mile marker 288.

Motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route if traveling through the area; however, one lane of I-95 southbound has been opened for vehicular traffic.

“A large backup of traffic has been reported in this area,” Bryan told local reporters. “Inspectors from the Florida Department of Transportation are currently accessing the extent of damage to the roadway.”

Bryan reiterated the complex nature of this investigation, the reconstruction necessary, and said part of that process is identifying the names of the people involved and the families of those killed in the crash. That has not been accomplished at this time.

“Further information will be broadcasted once it becomes available,” Bryan said.

This was one-of-two deadly collisions about the same time last night that had interstate traffic detoured both northbound and southbound near the St Johns – Flagler County line.
