Thrasher, Renuart, and Hutson all resign their office

Historic City News has confirmed that St Augustine Senator John Thrasher, Senate District 6, will be making his way to Tallahassee to accept the position of president of Florida State University, even though he just won re-election to the Florida Senate about a week ago during the General Election.

According to state law, Governor Rick Scott has ordered Secretary of State Ken Detzinger to hold a special election for Thrasher’s vacated seat. The Special Primary Election for Senate District 6 will be held on January 27, 2015, and the Special Election will be held on April 7, 2015.

As predicted, two currently seated members of the Florida House of Representatives, Representative Ronald ”Doc” Renuart, House District 17, who also survived re-election November 4th, and Representative Travis Hutson, House District 24, have tendered the resignation of their seats to seek election to the seat vacated by Thrasher. This created two additional seats that will be filled during the same special election.

Other candidates interested in Thrasher’s District 6 seat will be required to collect 881 valid voter signatures from the district or pay a qualifying fee, if running with party affiliation, in the amount of $1,781.82. Without party affiliation, the fee is $1,187.88.

Candidates interested in Renuart’s former District 17 seat will be required to collect 337 valid voter signatures from the district or pay a qualifying fee, if running with party affiliation, in the amount of $1,781.82. Without party affiliation, the fee is $1,187.88.

Because it is a slightly smaller district, candidates interested in Hutson’s former District 24 seat will be required to collect 295 valid voter signatures from the district or pay a qualifying fee, if running with party affiliation, in the amount of $1,781.82. Without party affiliation, the fee is $1,187.88.
