Sunday morning drive-through incident lands three in jail

When 21-year-old Jody Lynn Carlile pulled up to the drive-through at Steak-n-Shake in St Augustine at about 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning, she probably wasn’t thinking that she and the two young men riding in the Jeep with her were headed for the St Johns County Jail.

The trouble started when one of the two passengers, 19-year-old Chase Robert Doucette, hopped out of the vehicle and relieved himself in plain view in the parking lot. He was observed by the restaurant employee bringing out the order, who told the three that she was calling the police.

Carlile, and her other passenger, 18-year-old Patrick James Obrien, got out of the Jeep and confronted the employee, according to the incident report. Carlile, who resides at 300 Ryder Cup Circle in St. Augustine, pushed the female employee; and, Obrien, who resides at 20 Williams Street in St. Augustine, snatched away the employee’s cell phone while she was distracted.

Doucette, who resides at 13 Marilyn Avenue in St Augustine, returned to the vehicle and all three sped away from the scene. Soon thereafter, police caught up to the vehicle; and, based on identification made by the restaurant employee and their sworn affidavit, arrested each occupant.

Doucette was booked and released on $1,000 bond; charged with indecent public exposure, a first-degree misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a second-degree misdemeanor.

Carlile was booked and released on $1,000 bond; charged with first-degree misdemeanor battery, and accessory after-the-fact to a third-degree felony.

Obrien was booked and released on $5,500 bond; charged with third-degree felony robbery by sudden snatching without the use of a firearm or other weapon, and second-degree felony obstructing justice by tampering in the restaurant employee’s call for help.
