St Johns County Supervisor of Elections, Vicky Oakes, is informing Historic City News readers that any remaining new voter registrations or political party changes must be filed before the close of business today in order to apply to the upcoming January 27, 2015 election.
St Johns County Republican voters will cast ballots in the Closed-primary Special Election for State Senate District 6, and State House Districts 17 and 24 after the resignation of newly re-elected Senator John Thrasher who quit to become president of Florida State University.
Thrasher’s move resulted in a domino-effect of resignations leading to special elections in the two House districts; since both representatives wants Thrasher’s senate seat. Cyndi Stevenson resigned the remainder of her term on the St John County Commission to run for a House seat, but her position can be filled by gubernatorial appointment.
Early voting in the Special Primary will begin January 17th and will continue through January 24th. Early voting locations will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. daily, Oakes said.
