The City of St Augustine updated Historic City News today on the status of two major projects underway downtown. According to Project Engineer, Reuben C. Franklin Jr., all of the curb and sidewalk work is complete on the Transit in Parks project on Orange Street.
Reporting that the project is on schedule, Franklin said the first section of the Cubo Line has been excavated and footer constructed.
“I’m anticipating having the east bound lane of Orange Street open to traffic the first or second week of November,” Franklin reported. “The concrete road base pour began today, and the brick paver installation is expected to begin next week.”
Work on the Downtown Improvement District project enters its next phase. Starting Monday, October 20, Treasury Street from St. George Street east to Charlotte Street will be closed. The closure will continue through this phase of the project which is scheduled to last approximately four months.
Access to the parking lot on the corner of Treasury St. and Spanish St. will be maintained.
Additionally, the parking lot at Toques Place, between Hypolita St. and Cuna St., will again be accessible for parking.
The construction laydown area has been relocated to the Tolomato parking lot between Cordova St. and Spanish St.
Section 1 – Hypolita between Charlotte & St. George
Street lights are installed and concrete is being poured in the blocked out sections. This section will be complete by the end of the week.Section 2 – Hypolita between St. George & Spanish
Light poles are installed. By the end of next week this section should be complete.Section 3 – Hypolita between Spanish & Cordova
North and south curb work is complete just to the east of Cordova Street. The south sidewalk and road base has been poured. Brick paver installation should begin near the end of October.Section 4 – Spanish between Hypolita & Cuna
The gas main and services are installed. Curb work is expected to begin next week.Section 5/6 – Spanish between Hypolita & Treasury
The gas main installation is complete. Gas services will be installed next week. The street is being rough graded and prepped for curb work.Section 7 – Treasury between Charlotte & Cordova
Demolition work begins Monday, October 20th. Treasury Street will be closed from Charlotte to St. George. The western end of Treasury will convert to two way traffic to provide access to the Spanish Street Parking Lot. This week the Contractor is removing the north curb along West Treasury to increase the width of the street for two way access.
