The overwhelming majority of Historic City News readers were not counted among the millions of Americans who did not vote in 2012, many because they didn’t know how to register or they missed the registration deadline.
St Johns County Supervisor of Elections, Vicky Oakes, told local news reporters that eligible voters must be registered to vote by October 6th to cast their ballot in the November 4th General Election.
“Not only new registrations, but party affiliations and changes of address, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses need to be updated at this time,” Oakes reminded Historic City News. “In recognition of National Voter Registration day, we hope to raise awareness and encourage every American to prepare to exercise their most basic civic duty –their right to vote.”
Communities are stronger when everyone participates in the election process. Each of us needs to do our part. That means voting, but first you must ensure you are registered. You must also keep your information up to date with the Elections Office.
It’s never been easier to register to vote than it is today. You can register or make changes to your voter registration at the Elections Office, Public Libraries, Tax Collectors Offices, Public Assistance Agencies (HRS), and Armed Forces Recruitment Offices. Online applications are also available at the Supervisor of Election’s website www.votesjc.com.
