Two down, jury convicts Kentrell Johnson

This afternoon, after an hour of deliberation, Historic City News received word from Court Communications Officer, Ludmilla Lelis that a St. Johns County jury has found Kentrell Feronti Johnson guilty of the first degree premeditated murder of Florida State University graduate student, 29-year-old Vincent John Binder.

Historic City News reporters were at the scene on April 28, 2010; when the lifeless body of was found behind the Wingate by Wyndham hotel on SR-16 just west of I-95.

Authorities say 43-year-old Kentrell Feronti Johnson, was one of three prisoners who escaped March 30, 2010, from the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office Detention Center in Marksville, Louisiana. The three men are being tried individually. Quentin Marcus Truehill, 26, has already been convicted and Peter Marcus Hughes, 26, is the last man remaining to be tried.

According to Lelis’ report today, Johnson was also convicted of first degree felony murder and the Vincent Binder kidnapping in 2010. Estimates are that the penalty phase of the trial will take three days to complete. Testimony is scheduled to begin 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24.
