All Historic City News readers are invited to visit the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument when the National Park Service honors veterans by waiving its normal $7.00 entrance fee as a “thank you” to all of the men and women who have served our country.
Across the country, November 11th, Veterans Day 2014, has been designated as a “Fee Free Day” at all national parks.
“The Castillo de San Marcos stands as a tangible reminder of the sacrifices that our veterans have made to defend and care for our country,” said Castillo de San Marcos National Monument Chief of Interpretation and Education Steve Roberts. “The Castillo is one of those special places that preserve the legacy that our veterans have built.”
Nearly 100 national park sites have a direct tie to the military. Remember those who have bravely served in our armed forces with a visit to your nearby national park
Castillo de San Marcos National Monument was established in 1933 to preserve and protect the oldest fortification in the continental United States — a unique specimen of Spanish military architecture and engineering, related cultural resources, and to interpret their architectural, political, and social history.
