The City of St Augustine has informed Historic City News local reporters that our readers are encouraged to attend and participate when the steering committee for the City’s visioning initiative holds a “town hall” meeting on Monday and collects feedback from residents about the work that has been done thus far.
The purpose of the meeting, according to the public affairs department, will be to solicit the community’s view of the visioning initiative, its performance under the tutelage of their $85,000 consultant, Herbert A. Marlowe, Jr. Ph.D., and the direction the volunteer committee members are taking.
“Citizens should take this opportunity to let the steering committee know if it is moving in the right direction in its work to define a vision for St. Augustine’s future,” wrote Public Affairs Director, Paul Williamson.
In their last meeting, November 3rd, the handpicked group of members, politicos that some in town refer to as “visioning zombies”, developed a strategic positioning statement that includes draft versions of a vision statement. During the town hall meeting November 17th, committee members will meet with members of the public, in small groups, to review the document and note their reactions.
If you plan to attend, the meeting will be held on Monday, November 17th from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Willie Galimore Center, located at 399 Riberia Street.
Prior to the meeting, you may acquaint yourself with the proposed document by visiting the visioning website at www.VisioingStAug.com.
Members of the Visioning 2014 and Beyond Steering Committee, members of the St. Augustine City Commission and its appointed boards or committees, are anticipated to be in attendance and may participate in the proceedings. In accordance with the requirements of Florida’s Open Government and Public Records laws, such elected and appointed persons may not engage in discussion or debate amongst themselves on any matter that is likely to come before their respective board.
