A Creekside High School student has received a 10-day suspension and still faces third-degree felony charges after a loaded .38 caliber handgun was found in his SUV at school Thursday afternoon, authorities told Historic City News.
The 18-year-old student, Griffin Scott Hudgins who resides at 554 South Aberdeenshire Drive in St Johns was arrested for possession of a firearm on school property.
Yesterday, a police K-9 alerted to his Ford Explorer during a “sniff check” of the parking lot. A Smith and Wesson revolver, loaded with five rounds, was found in the trunk, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
Christina Langston, spokesperson for the St Johns County School District, told local reporters that a discipline committee will decide if further punishment is warranted in this case.
The school resource deputy reported that during his arrest yesterday afternoon about 3:00 p.m., Hudgins admitted to knowing about the handgun in his vehicle.
Hudgins was released from the St Johns County Detention Facility after posting a $2,500 appearance bond. The court date was not announced.
