A training workshop will be presented by Taxpayers United of America this Saturday, March 7th, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., and Historic City News readers interested in educating themselves on the perils of government pensions, and what they can do on the local level to fight against them, are invited to attend the statewide event.
Taxpayers United of America has analyzed government employee pensions in 19 states, including Florida, and has become “expert” on the subject of government employee pensions and reform; they report that they receive media interview requests from across the country on a regular basis.
“We have developed a training workshop to educate the state and local activists in the entire process to fight government pensions, including everything from researching the pension laws to disseminating the information to taxpayers, and how to use the research on an ongoing basis,” said Director of Outreach, Rae Ann McNeilly, who has held press conferences in Miami, Orlando, Tallahassee, and Jacksonville about the research. “The $25 registration fee includes the cost of the seminar and a catered lunch, so please attend.”
The workshop itself covers all of the elements of the government pension analysis including:
- Researching the pension laws as detailed above
- Researching the FOIA process and contacts for each of the funds
- Drafting effective FOIA requests
- Following up on the FOIAs and inducing them to comply
- Analyzing the data
- Calculating estimated pensions for states with secrecy laws
- Calculating estimated lifetime payouts, percentage of employee contribution
- Planning and executing successful news conferences
- Building great media lists and grassroots lists
- Writing effective news releases
- Using the data on an ongoing basis
- Refreshing the data.
The events will be hosted in several states across the country. If you plan to attend the seminar in Orlando this Saturday, the details are:
