Local historian and Executive Director of the St. Augustine Historical Society Susan R. Parker, Ph.D., announced to Historic City News that tickets are available to hear New York Times best-selling author, Steve Berry, during an upcoming fundraiser for their research library.
On Thursday, March 26, Berry, who is a St Augustine resident, will debut his latest novel, “The Patriot Threat”, the 10th novel in Berry’s popular Cotton Malone series that began in 2006.
“Preserving library and artifact collections, with ever-changing standards, requires state-of-the-art environmental systems and cataloguing techniques to protect the items for future generations,” Parker told reporters.
Berry and his wife, Elizabeth, have made a commitment to helping communities preserve their local history through their foundation, “History Matters”.
Berry was contacted by Chief Librarian, Bob Nawrocki, after learning about the foundation. Nawrocki explained that he feels the Research Library’s work fits the mission of History Matters.
“Author Steve Berry features ancient documents and artifacts in starring roles in his historic fiction novels; and, by the way, I’m reading another one of them, The Lincoln Myth, right now,” Parker told Historic City News.
There will be two opportunities for patrons Thursdays evening.
The main event will begin at 6:00 p.m., at the Historical Society located at 271 Charlotte Street in St Augustine. Tickets are $100 per person and include a copy of The Patriot Threat, which the author will sign during the reception. There will also be a presentation by Berry as well as a question-and-answer session with the audience. The reception and book-signing will conclude at 8:00 p.m.
There also will be a separate $25-per-person ticketed event at the Page Edwards Gallery, in the complex, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Selected items in the Society and Research Library’s special collections will be displayed. Before the conclusion, guests will enjoy an opportunity to meet the author.

About the book:
Cotton Malone is described by Berry as a former Justice Department operative who now runs a book store in Denmark. While in retirement, Malone is still pressed into covert missions. The Patriot Threat is another trademark mix of history and suspense; 90% fact, and 10% exciting speculation. The story is a provocative thriller that poses a dangerous question, “What if the federal income tax is illegal?”
About the author:
Berry is a St Augustine resident who grew up in Georgia; graduating from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law. He was a trial lawyer for 30 years and held elective office for 14 of those years. Berry is a founding member of International Thriller Writers; a group of more than 2,600 thriller writers worldwide. In addition to the Cotton Malone series, he has also published stand-alone thrillers and is consistently on top lists of thriller novels nationally and internationally. His books have been translated into 40 languages with 19 million copies in 51 countries.
