Historic City News reminds all area veterans that on the eleventh month, and the eleventh day, at the eleventh hour, the Camp Blanding Museum will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony honoring those who serve our nation.
The Ceremony will include the playing of all 5 military service songs and recognition of all veterans present near the main gate of the Camp Blanding Museum & Memorial Park, located at 5629 SR-16 West, in Starke.
The featured speaker for the event is Colonel Daniel (Matt) Johnson, the incoming Commander of Camp Blanding Joint Training Center.
Colonel Johnson enlisted in the Florida Army National Guard February 1986 as a Single Channel Radio Operator and then attended Officer Candidate School at the Florida National Guard Military Academy, receiving his commission in August 1988.
He served as Platoon Leader, Company Commander, Battalion Executive Officer, and Battalion Commander. He deployed to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in 1991 in support of Operation Desert Storm and deployed to Iraq in 2008, serving as Commander, 146th Expeditionary Signal Battalion.
He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College, Class of 2013.
Colonel Johnson currently serves as the Chief Information Officer/G6 for the Florida Army National Guard and was recently selected as Commander, Camp Blanding Joint Training Center. He is a resident of Green Cove Springs, Fla.
