The St. Augustine Fire Department informed local Historic City News reporters that they have received a very generous and tremendously useful piece of equipment this week via a grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.
Vehicle extrication equipment, valued at $29,714, was awarded to the department. Representatives from Firehouse Subs were on hand Wednesday for the presentation and brief demonstration of the tools.
“The awarded tools will improve our rescue capabilities for victims in motor vehicle accidents,” Fire Chief J. C. Costeira told local reporters.
In 2005, Firehouse Subs created the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, life-saving equipment, and educational opportunities to first-responders and public safety organizations. Through the non-profit 501(c)(3), Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has given more than $14 million to hometown heroes in 43 states and Puerto Rico, including more than $2.6 million in Florida.
