St Augustine Public Affairs Director, Paul Williamson, advised Historic City News that during his 15-minute weekly program aired on Flagler College Radio, he will host Denise May; the city’s Assistant City Attorney.
The Break Room, aired on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:00 a.m. on WFCF/88.5FM, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of the City of St. Augustine through interviews with those responsible for the city’s day-to-day operations — city employees.
“This week’s program gives listeners the opportunity to hear from our Assistant City Attorney when she talks about the duties of her office,” Williamson told local reporters. “Some are common to many cities, and some are unique to St. Augustine.”
From 2001-2004, May earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Technology from Belmont University. She was a database consultant after graduation. In 2009, she returned to the Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law at Barry University; graduating cum laude with her Juris Doctorate degree in 2013.
May gained experience as a Certified Legal Intern at the City of St Augustine from August 2012 to December 2012, and, from December 2012 to January 2014, she interned in the Office of State Attorney R. J. Larizza. Six months ago, in September 2014, she became Assistant City Attorney for the City of St. Augustine.
City Attorney, Isabelle Lopez, reported that Denise was an exemplary intern with the City Attorney’s office. She brought insightful focus to a complete review of the City’s citation program and proposed a workable set of updates to our City Code.
“She brings with her grounding and maturity, an amazing work ethic and reliability,” Lopez wrote. “She jumped right into her duties and took on prosecution of citations, legal research and editing of a major appellate brief.”
This week’s program and past programs are available for on-demand listening.
