Deputy may be cited in crash where he sustained minor injuries

According to Highway Patrol Sergeant Roger Thomas in a crash report received by Historic City News this morning, charges are pending against 32-year-old Justin O. Self-Medlin of St Augustine.

Medlin, a St Johns County deputy sheriff, was traveling in his marked patrol car, a 2014 Ford Taurus, southbound on US-1, north of Stokes Landing Road at about 3:30 AM; when he approached and overtook from behind a truck towing a trash container.

The truck was in the roadway with its emergency lights activated, directing traffic to merge left.

The patrol car failed to merge left into the inside travel lane, striking the truck operated by 25-year-old Leandro Guerra of Miami.

The deputy received minor injuries, according to the report.
