At 10:41 a.m. this morning, local Historic City News reporters were informed that St Augustine Police were responding to a bomb threat at R. B. Hunt Elementary School on Anastasia Boulevard.
St Johns County School District officials received word of an explosive device on the campus, details of the call have not yet been released.
Staff escorted the students to safety, away from the building, as emergency personnel with the St Augustine Fire Department, St Johns County bomb squad, and hazardous materials team, cleared the property.
Some parents came to the school to pick-up their children. Others were allowed re-entry after a thorough search found no explosives on the school grounds.
Detectives are developing some leads from information obtained at the School District office on Orange Street. The investigation is ongoing.
“At no time were the students, staff or facilities ever in danger during this incident,” Mark Samson reported this evening. “St Augustine Police cleared the scene at 12:53 p.m.”
Anyone with information concerning the identity or whereabouts of persons responsible for this hoax, can remain anonymous and may possibly earn a reward cash reward by calling CrimeStoppers of Northeast Florida at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477).
