Wednesday, April 22nd, is the official Earth Day. However, Historic City News readers in St Augustine will also want to participate Saturday, April 25th, when the city offers an environmentally safe way to get rid of some hard-to-get-rid-of items.
The city is offering two recycling collection services — document shredding and e-waste collection — on Saturday, April 25 at R. B. Hunt Elementary School, located on Anastasia Island at 125 Magnolia Drive, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
A shredding service will be available for residents to drop off up to five file boxes of documents for on-site, secure destruction and then recycling. The e-waste collection service is growing in popularity as consumers replace obsolete electronic devices.
Saturday’s collection is a way to easily, and safely, dispose of computers, printers, fax machines, cell phones, rechargers, power supply units, cameras, stereos, radios, small appliances, remote controls, batteries of all types and sizes and even Christmas lights.
Historic City News supports all environmentally conservative measures for our community that lead to a safer, healthier, and sustainable life. We are an environmentally conscious corporate citizen; proving that it is possible to deliver the news to our readers without contributing tons of paper waste to burgeoning landfills or contaminating the earth with toxic printer’s ink.
In addition to the special recycling services day on April 25th, all of these materials are accepted at the Solid Waste and Sanitation Division facility at 601 Riberia Street by contacting Olivia Smith, Recycling Coordinator at 904.825.1049 to schedule a time for drop-off.
