Legislative delegation holds final vote on local airport bill

Historic City News will be on hand Thursday, December 17th, when the St Johns County Legislative Delegation meets to discuss and vote on the final language of a local bill related to the St Augustine-St Johns County Airport Authority for the 2016 Legislative Session.

The delegation will convene the meeting at 3:00 p.m. at the St Johns County Health and Human Services Building located at 200 San Sebastian View in St Augustine.  It is open to the public and public comment is welcome.

The proposed local airport bill, which the Delegation voted to submit on October 13, 2015, will accomplish the following:

• Renames the St Augustine-St Johns County Airport Authority to the St Johns County Airport Authority

• Revises the Airport Authority’s Charter to reflect that the Authority will continue to conduct airport operations under the name Northeast Florida Regional Airport, as it has since 2010

• Permits the Authority to create a limited stipend for Authority members conditioned on the special district being supported by its own revenues and not ad valorem taxation

Upon final approval of the bill language by the Delegation, the bill will be filed by the start of the 2016 Legislative Session, which begins on January 12, 2016.
