Historic City News has received word from Florida Living History, Inc., confirming their plans to commemorate the Founding of the City of St. Augustine on Tuesday, September 8th.
The City and Diocese of St. Augustine have scheduled the re-enactment of the founding of “The Noble and Loyal City” to take place on the grounds of Mission Nombre de Dios. The Diocese of St. Augustine is funding the re-enactment and has invited Florida Living History to participate as part of the celebration, according to Director of Communications for the Diocese, Kathleen Bagg.
Florida Living History, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to educating the public about Florida’s colonial and territorial history; from the time of Don Juan Ponce de León’s first landing in 1513 to the time of Florida’s statehood in 1845. Members strive to meet high standards in historical interpretation and support educational initiatives that promote a greater understanding and appreciation of Florida’s, and America’s, rich and diverse heritage using living history programs, demonstrations, and re-created portrayals of significant historical events.
