Historic City News will welcome Loretta Swit back to St Augustine when she serves as grand marshal of the upcoming St Augustine Easter Parade; scheduled for March 27, 2016, at 3:00 p.m.
Best known for her role as Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan on M*A*S*H, and a two-time Emmy Award winner, Swit is a frequent St Augustine visitor. She is also known for her activism on behalf of animals and she serves as an honorary board member of the local non-profit, Ayla’s Acres.
“Ms. Swit will lead the historic St Augustine parade; from the Mission Nombre de Dios, down Avenida Menendez, and through the historic district,” reported 2016 Parade Director David Chatterton, General Manager at Old Town Trolley Tours of St Augustine.
The St Augustine Easter Parade, which was created in 1956 to attract additional tourism to the area, was one component of the annual St Augustine Easter Week Festival.
“Old Town Trolley Tours is pleased to work with Ayla’s Acres to bring Ms. Swit to St Augustine to lead this important and historical parade for our community,” Chatterton added.
The Easter Parade of Horses and Carriages features St Augustine’s Royal Family, the Easter Bunny, clowns, drill teams, community floats and marching bands.
Michele Reyna, President of the St Augustine Easter Week Festival, told Historic City News that this year’s parade sponsors are Fran Charlson, executive director of Ayla’s Acres No-Kill Animal Rescue, and Edwin O. Swift, III, President Old Town Trolley Tours of St Augustine.
