Commander Charles E. Mulligan announced to local Historic City News reporters that the Norton, Virginia Police Department responded to a 911 call from a female motorists who had to take evasive action to avoid being run off the road by what she believed to be a drunk driver.
When the police arrived, they identified the vehicle that the complainant believed was trying to make her stop. Police confirmed that the vehicle matched the description reported by St Johns County in connection with the shooting at a residence near World Golf Village Thursday morning.
Officers initiated a traffic stop, and took Colley into custody without any resistance. Subsequently, he was charged with a driving under the influence in their jurisdiction and transported to jail in Duffield, Virginia.
Christina Langston with the St. Johns County School District told Historic City News that Mill Creek Elementary, Wards Creek Elementary and Pacetti Bay Middle schools were all placed under “hard lock down”, with no one allowed in or out, while deputies conducted the local search.
Major Crimes Unit detectives from St. Johns County drove throughout the night and are currently working with police in Norton, Virginia. At this time, the vehicle is being processed in an attempt to identify and collect evidence from yesterday’s homicide that left two victims dead.
