St. Augustine Police patrolman, Chris Miller, is one of only fifty Post 9-11, GI Bill award winners nationally to be chosen from a field of veteran applicants to receive a Yellow Ribbon scholarship.
Miller applied and obtained acceptance at Harvard University where he is pursuing his undergraduate degree; majoring in Psychology. He served in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army.
“Chris has been a St. Augustine Police Officer for 6 years and has a combined 23 years in Law Enforcement,” public information officer Mark Samson informed local reporters. “The scholarship, in conjunction with his GI Bill, is allowing Officer Miller to pursue his Bachelor Degree.”
Miller says he was keeping his facebook friends at home updated as he made his way across the Harvard Law School campus, when Professor John Coates invited him to speak to several of his students.
Coates learned that Student Miller is actually a full time police officer. He salivated at the opportunity to grill Miller on policing and law enforcement topics.
Miller spoke with the students in an open forum and engaged in an energetic and interesting discussion pertaining to current events in law enforcement; particularly the recent shooting in Ferguson, Mo. and the recent death of Eric Garner in NYC.
“I believe I held my own and represented the profession well, or as best I could,” Miller wrote on his wall. “They thanked me and presented me with a bottle of South Boston Whiskey which we shared after class.”
