Historic Tours of America, the operators of Olde Town Trolley, the Historic Old Jail, and Potter’s Wax Museum in St Augustine, reported to Historic City News that they have asked Pastor Ronald Rawls of St Paul AME Church to “stand in” as the model for the body of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Tuesday, artists from the museum will make a wax casting of Pastor Rawls body, from the neck down, to create the mold that will be used to fabricate the body of the famous Civil Rights leader.

“I am extremely honored right now,” Rawls told local reporters. “They don’t realize that Dr. King is the human I try to model in my ministry.”

Rawls name was suggested as the likely candidate for the job; being approximately the same height and build of Dr. King, whose photograph hangs prominently in Rawls’ office. St. Paul AME Church also holds historic significance in the local Civil Rights movement during the 1960’s, and is located on Martin Luther King Avenue in Lincolnville.

Potter’s Wax Museum has already completed the bust of the late Dr. King; who was assassinated on Thursday, April 4, 1968, at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 39. Rawls will turn 49-years-old in October. “I guess I better do some sit-ups before next Tuesday,” Rawls joked.

The date for the completion of the final museum piece has not been announced. Historic City News will publish the debut.
