Historic City News readers who operate one of the 8,400 vehicles on average that travel US Highway 17, south of SR-16, every day, expect detours and delays as traffic is rerouted while the railroad crossing near Crews Road is replaced.
This section of US-17 will be completely closed, in both directions, from March 20-22 while the replacement work is completed.
“The detour route is SR-16, I-95, SR-207 and SR-100,” a spokesman for the Florida Department of Transportation told Historic City News. “Law enforcement officers will assist with the road closure and detour.”
The road will close at 6:00 a.m. Friday, March 20 and is scheduled to open on Sunday, March 22 at 8:00 p.m. The reopening date can change due to unforeseen conditions and rain. The road can be reopened early if the work is completed ahead of schedule. Call 888-558-1518 for updates on the reopening.
CSX Transportation, Inc. will replace the existing railroad crossing with a concrete crossing that is designed to last longer and hold up better under heavy traffic. Crews will resurface the area once the crossing is replaced.
