At their regular meeting Monday night, April 13th, members of the Republican Club of Greater St Augustine announced to Historic City News the selection of three winners from their Scholarship Essay contest held in February.
Students who placed in the top three, and their awards were:
Jana Rochell | 1st Place | $1,000 |
Nick Humphries | 2nd place | $750 |
Michael Pell | 3rd place | $500 |
The prize money will be sent to the college of each student’s choosing to be applied to their tuition costs.
Outgoing club president, Lee Owen, spoke about the dedication of these students and their excellent essay entries. Their parents were introduced and congratulated on the fine job they had done in nurturing and mentoring these young folks.
Excerpts from the winning essays were read and Owen gave each winner a certificate.
During the business meeting, officers for the coming term were elected, including Randy Brunson – president, Marty Miller – vice president, Bob Veit for another term as Treasurer. There were no nominations for secretary; so, that election will occur during the May 11th meeting, according to current secretary, Pat Greenfield.
