Return of the red absentee ballot drop boxes

Vicky Oakes, St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections, informed local Historic City News reporters today that over 15,000 absentee ballots have been mailed for the upcoming April 7th Special General Election; called to fill the vacancies in Florida Senate District 6 and Florida House District 17 and District 24.

That means it is time for the red absentee ballot drop boxes to return to locations throughout the county.

“Voters may return their voted absentee ballots at all public libraries, St. Augustine Beach City Hall, plus the Ponte Vedra and Julington Creek Tax Collectors Offices,” Oakes told Historic City News. “The boxes will be available at all locations until Election Day, April 7th at 5:00 p.m., when they will be picked up and returned to the Elections Office for processing.”

There is a 24-hour drop box available in front of the Elections Office at 4455 Avenue A, Suite 101 in St. Augustine. Voted absentee ballots may also be turned in at early voting locations during early voting, March 28th-April 4th.

It’s not too late to request an absentee ballot for the upcoming Special General Election. Simply call the Elections Office at 823-2238 or visit www.votesjc.com and use the online request form. The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot to be mailed is April 1st at 5:00 p.m.

In order for an absentee ballot to be counted it must be returned to the Elections Office by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, April 7th.

“My staff and I are here to serve you and we will make it easy for you to vote,” Oakes told Historic City News local reporters. “Please visit our office, call, or use our online forms and resources, to help prepare you for Election Day.”
