St Johns County Sheriff David Shoar along with St Johns County Administrator Michael Wanchick will be participating together in a workshop for newly elected County Commissioners from across the State of Florida, today and Friday.
The Florida Association of Counties is hosting a New Commissioner Workshop this week at The University of Florida. Shoar and Wanchick will be speaking about the advantages of a having a strong working relationship between the Office of Sheriff and the County Administration.
Both Shoar and Wanchick feel honored to be asked to address the esteemed group on the importance of good governance that focuses on mutual respect and collaboration.
The day and a half workshop, which is being held at the University of Florida Hilton, will allow participants to gain an understanding of a variety of topics for the new commissioner.
These topics include the role and authority of a County Commissioner, ethics and Sunshine Laws, how to run a successful meeting, how to work effectively with county staff, media training and effective leading and governing.
Shoar has been Sheriff of St Johns County since January 2005, and is the current Florida Sheriff’s Association President. Wanchick has been the County Administrator since July 2007.
