Chairman Frank Upchurch III, reported to Historic City News that St Johns County Court judge, Charles J. Tinlin, has been elected to the Flagler College Board of Trustees. Tinlin graduated from Flagler College with a Bachelor of English degree in 1979.
After graduation, Tinlin earned a Juris Doctor degree from the California Western School of Law.
“We are honored to have such a respected and distinguished member of the community serve on our Board of Trustees,” Upchurch told local reporters. “He is a highly regarded judge who has devoted his career to improving St. Johns County. He has been a great supporter of his alma mater over the years, and he will bring a unique perspective to the Board.”
Judge Tinlin was elected to the bench in 1990, and he currently hears criminal and civil cases at the Richard O. Watson Judicial Center in St. Augustine.
Before becoming a judge, he was in private practice and then served as an Assistant State Attorney in the Seventh Judicial Circuit in St. Johns County.
He has been an active member of St. Augustine Sunrise Rotary and won the Flagler College Professional Achievement Award in 2004.
