Benjamin Kaush was riding his bike along US-1 north near Cornwell’s store, when he was struck by a car just south of Stokes Landing Road.
Michael Rocha said he’s outraged that someone hit his friend and left him for dead.
“His sister called me last night and told me what happened. I couldn’t really get a grip on that,” said Rocha. “Then I woke up today and it really hit me.”
The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver veered onto the shoulder and hit Kausch as he was riding home from work.
His death is the third fatal hit-and-run in St. Johns County since November.
Heather Neville, an advocate for bike riders in St. Johns County, said all accidents are preventable. She’s asking for more safety measures to be put in place.
“Don’t worry about why that guy is riding his bicycle. Just give him some space, because now there is somebody out there who knows they’ve killed someone,” said Neville.
FHP is asking for help in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call 904-825-5080.
