Tomorrow is Election Day

Two years of seemingly endless campaigning, rallies, forums, interviews, and political advertising, comes to a close tomorrow when voters in St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam and a part of Volusia County go to the polls to elect two state representatives and one state senator.

An extended, and expensive, election cycle that included a Primary Election August 26, 2014, followed by a General Election November 4, 2014, followed by a Special Primary Election January 27, 2015, culminates in the General Special Election tomorrow, April 7, 2015.

Former Florida Senator, John E. Thrasher, was re-elected November 4th. But, shortly afterwards, Thrasher resigned the seat; accepting the position of president of Florida State University — an appointment he had been courting. Because of the brief window of time after the election, Thrasher’s resignation created a vacancy that would require a special election to fill.

Also re-elected November 4th were St Johns County’s two state representatives; Ronald “Doc” Renuart and Travis Hutson; but, with Thrasher’s senate seat now open, both Renuart and Hutson decided to make their bid. To do that, of course, each of them was required to resign their newly re-elected offices.

The Special General Election is open to all registered voters.

As of this morning, 12,806 voters in St. Johns County have already cast their ballots in this election: 4,123 voted early and 8,683 by absentee ballot.

Tuesday – Election Day:

Voters are required to vote in the precinct of their legal residence. All 46 precincts will be open in St. Johns County from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. One change for voters in precinct 501: World Golf Village Conf. Center will vote at Davidson Realty.

If your address has changed, please call the Elections Office before you head out to vote so we can update your information and send you to the correct polling place. This can be a real time saver.

All regular 46 precincts will be open in St. Johns County from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Election results will be available on the Elections Office website www.votesjc.com After 7:00 p.m., absentee and early voting totals will be uploaded and available, then the precincts will be posted as they arrive at the Office.
