Historic City News learned today that Deputy Charles K Simpkiss spotted what he described as a “suspicious vehicle” in the parking lot of a local business located in the 2500 block of SR-16 last night at about 11:30 p.m. and he decided to investigate.
Simpkiss contacted the man in the driver’s seat, and identified him as 32-year-old Jarrod Richard Rodriguez, whose last known address was reported as 3669 Sudbury Lane in Bonita Springs.
A records check revealed that Rodriguez had a concealed weapons permit, an expired security badge from New Jersey, did not have a valid driver’s license and the registration of the vehicle was expired.
Simpkiss observed a firearm in the vehicle. According to the incident report, Rodriguez repeatedly reached for the firearm, despite numerous commands by the deputy to keep his hands where they could be seen.
A closer inspection of the vehicle revealed that Rodriguez was also in possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, drug paraphernalia, and other suspicious property.
