The National Park Service would like to invite all Historic City News readers to attend the annual Castillo de San Marcos National Monument “Holiday Open House” on Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Experience the Castillo after dark and mingle with the soldiers, sailors, marines, and civilians who have served within the Castillo’s walls. Park Rangers and volunteers will bring the history of the Castillo to life during this community event.
The event will begin with a two-gun cannon volley at 6:00 p.m. followed by a two additional cannon demonstrations at 7:30 p.m. and again at 8:30 p.m.
Castillo de San Marcos National Monument preserves the oldest fortification in the continental United States, a unique specimen of Spanish military architecture and engineering, related cultural resources, and their architectural, political, and social history.
