Diane Bradley, President of the St. Augustine Art Association, reported to Historic City News that she and Lynne Stephenson of Flamingo Travel recently presented an 8-day Viking River Cruise gift certificate to a local St Augustine artist.
Barry Snow is the winning ticket holder drawn during the May Art Walk, with Mayor Nancy Shaver selecting Snow’s winning ticket.
“We wanted to give back to the community,” said Stephenson. “The Art Association’s sculpture garden is such a worthy project and the organization is known for promoting culture, just like Viking, so it was a great match.”
Stephenson encouraged the international Viking River Cruise company to donate the cruise. Sale of tickets brought in more than $6500 to the St. Augustine Art Association.
“Thanks to the generosity of Viking River Cruise and the support of Flamingo Travel, all of the proceeds from the drawing will support the garden currently under construction at our gallery,” said Bradley.
Tickets were sold over a 7 month period at special events and Art Walks.
“My wife and I were just saying how we needed to take a trip while we still can,” Snow said, laughing. “This is just amazing. I can’t believe we actually won!”
The St. Augustine Art Association, located at 22 Marine Street, is one of the oldest non-profit art organizations in the region. The garden renovation is a 450th legacy project that includes large sculptures, fountains, ADA ramps, new lighting, benches, native plantings, Braille markers and gathering spaces for events. Those wishing to make a donation toward the Art Garden or seeking ways to honor loved ones should call the Art Association at (904) 824-2310. For more information, go to www.touchstaugustine.com.
