Thursday evening, Historic City News was informed that a 25-year-old St Johns County man turned himself in to deputies at the St Johns County Detention Facility where he is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond on charges arising during a recent undercover operation targeting Internet sexual predators.
During the initial phase of the operation, law enforcement officers reported that Kurtis Robert Carmean, who resides in an apartment at 700 West Pope Road, solicited sex acts of a minor juvenile female from her father. The investigation led to his identity and an arrest warrant was obtained.
Carmean was charged with using a computer to solicit a parent or guardian of a minor child for unlawful sexual conduct and use of a two way communication device to facilitate a felony.
The operation, which occurred two months ago, involved undercover detectives posing as juveniles online to arrange to meet adults at an undercover house located in St Johns County.
Multiple agencies participated in the operation under the auspices of the North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Those agencies included the F.B.I., F.D.L.E., Office of the State Attorney 7th Judicial Circuit, the Sheriff’s Offices of St. Johns, Volusia, Clay, Alachua, and Nassau Counties, as well as Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Police Departments of St. Augustine, Orange Park and Gainesville.
