St Johns County Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw reported to Historic City News that a man and woman were arrested early yesterday morning following a two county high-speed automobile pursuit.
The vehicle’s two occupants were identified as 24-year-old Robert Anthony Zaccaro of Tarpon Springs, and 18-year-old Kaylee Renee Simmons of Casselberry. Both were booked into the St Johns County Detention Facility and face additional charges; including carjacking in Seminole County.
Shortly before 4:00 a.m. Monday, St. Johns deputies were advised that Putnam County deputies were pursuing the occupants of a stolen vehicle into St. Johns County. The vehicle was spotted traveling eastbound on SR-207 in Hastings. St Johns County deputies took up the pursuit.
Kelshaw told local reporters that in addition to the carjacking, Zaccaro and Simmons were wanted for kidnapping in Seminole County. Deputies deployed stop sticks in Elkton and executed a P.I.T. maneuver against the fleeing vehicle before the driver was forced to stop and the two could be taken into custody.
Zaccaro was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer and driving on a suspended license. He remains in custody in lieu of a $19,000 bond. Simmons was charged with grand theft auto and remains in jail on a $2,500 bond. Both suspects are also facing charges of carjacking, kidnapping, aggravated
