The following activities are planned for Easter Sunday in and around St Augustine. Historic City News readers will want to keep an eye out for thunderstorms in the forecast today.
VILANO BEACH SUNRISE SERVICE
The 16th annual sunrise service begins at 7:15 a.m. on Vilano Beach. The 45-minute worship service includes songs, scripture readings and a gospel message. No parking is allowed on the beach via the Vilano Road access ramp. Parking is available on street and in the Publix lot.
CRESCENT BEACH SUNRISE SERVICE
This sunrise service, presented by Crescent Beach Baptist Church, begins at 7 a.m. on the beach near the Crescent Beach ramp. The worship service includes special music and an inspiring message.
EASTER PROMENADE
This annual event that features promenading locals and visitors in their Easter finery starts at noon in the Plaza de la Constitucion off King Street. Prizes are awarded for prettiest hats, largest family, family from farthest away, best-dressed animals and more. Participation is free. For information, go to oldestcityeaster.org.
ST. AUGUSTINE EASTER PARADE OF HORSES AND CARRIAGES
The 60th annual Easter parade starts at 3 p.m. at the Mission Nombre de Dios, heads south down San Marco Avenue and ends near the bayfront in the historic downtown district. The parade lasts about 1.5 hours and trophies will be presented in four categories. For information, go to oldestcityeaster.org.
FROMAJARDES SERENADE
A traditional Menorcan ‘Fromajardes’ celebration, in which young men are rewarded for their serenading abilities with Minorcan cheese pastries, starts at 7 p.m. in the Queen Isabella Garden on St. George Street. For information, go to oldestcityeaster.org.
