Neighborhood Council of St. Augustine president, Melinda Rakoncay, has invited all Historic City News readers to attend the only live, unrehearsed question and answer forum for city commission and mayor candidates in St Augustine.
Two years ago, this forum was voted the best of the best by our editorial board, based on comments received by Historic City News readers during and after the forum. The Neighborhood Council held a forum for both the Primary Election and General Election in 2014.
Candidates running this year are:
Seat 1: Roxanne Horvath vs. Ron Stafford
Seat 2: Leanna Freeman vs. Susan Rathbone
Seat 3/Mayor: Nancy Shaver vs. Kris Phillips
The 2016 City Commission Candidate Forum presented by the Neighborhood Council of St. Augustine will be on Thursday, October 6 at the Willie Galimore Center, 399 Riberia Street. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. to mingle with the candidates and there will be a slide show consisting of fun trivia questions on St. Augustine’s lost past. Admission is free, parking is free.
Questions begin at 7:00 p.m. sharp; they are being closely guarded, and will not be given to the candidates ahead of time. Questions were selected by a committee from over 95 submissions sent in from all over the City. This year the questions will be “candidate neutral” meaning the same question will be asked of both candidates running for the same seat, instead of “candidate specific”.
Model Land neighborhood resident, John Versaggi, will be the moderator. The Forum questioning period will last 100 minutes, and there will be additional time afterward for people to speak with the candidates on a one-on-one basis.
