Largest turnout saved for last day of Early Voting

St Johns County voters turned out at six polling locations for the last of eight days of early voting Saturday in the 2016 Primary Election; more than two-thousand ballots were cast.

Historic City News did exit polling Monday, Wednesday and for more than an hour this morning; collecting responses from voters at three different locations. We asked about voting for St Johns County Commissioner Seat 3, Clerk of Court, and the four-way race for Seat 1 on the St Augustine City Commission.

A total of 10,703 ballots were voted early and another 10,557 ballots voted by mail according to figures posted by Supervisor of Elections, Vicky Oakes.

Just less than half of the absentee ballots that were distributed by the Elections Office have been returned. For those ballots to be counted, they need to be returned to the Supervisor of Elections before the end of voting, 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30th, in order to be counted.

Oakes advises voters to either drop the mailed ballot in the collection box at the Elections Office or one of the designated drop box locations around the county. Vote by mail ballots MAY NOT be turning in at the polls on election day. A person that has been mailed a ballot, and has not returned it in time, may simply go to their assigned precinct on Election Day and vote in person.
