Middleton appointed to Florida Bar Board of Governors

The Florida Bar Board of Governors informed local Historic City News reporters in St Johns County today that Ponte Vedra Beach resident, Sharon B. Middleton, has been appointed by the state Supreme Court for a two-year term as a public member of the Bar’s 52-member governing board.

Middleton is a registered nurse and certified health education specialist, concentrating on patient advocacy, health care coordination, curriculum design, leadership development and corporate wellness. A special focus has been on Florida’s aging population and empowering senior citizens to maintain their independence and quality of life.

“While Sharon did not become a lawyer, she learned much of what lawyers do to promote justice by watching her father, legendary criminal defense lawyer Eddie Booth from Jacksonville, throughout his more than 50-year career,” said Bruce B. Blackwell, executive director of The Florida Bar Foundation. “Sharon has strong people skills, a keen intellect and genuinely cares for both our profession and the clients we serve as lawyers. She has much to offer from her perspective as a health professional.”

In addition to her father, Middleton’s mother, the late Bonnie D. Booth, served on the Judicial Qualifications Commission for eight years.

Middleton currently is a member of The Florida Bar’s Citizens Advisory Committee, an advisory group of 12 citizens with varied interests and backgrounds who help facilitate communications between the state’s major citizen constituencies and the Bar’s Board of Governors.

She served on the Bar’s Unlicensed Practice of Law Standing Committee from 2013 to 2015. Middleton will be sworn in on June 17th during at the Bar’s Annual Convention.

Middleton has a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Emory University and a master of science in health education from Florida State University.
