Musket volley marks the Change of Flags ceremony

Posted on 11/26/2016 By Historic City News

275-change-of-flagsOn Saturday, December 3rd, Historic City News readers are invited to join hundreds of costumed re-enactors from St. Augustine’s Colonial history as they perform military drills, and cannon and musket firing on the grounds of the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument.

At 9:00 a.m., the Fife and Drum will raise the colors and at 9:30 a.m., there will be a Change of Flags Ceremony commemorating the event in 1763 when Florida changed from Spanish to British hands.

At 7:00 p.m., a torchlight parade will start at the Castillo and march to the City Gates.

Re-enactors and citizens celebrating the event will follow along on St. George Street to the Government House and conclude the evening with a musket volley.
